NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A traffic stop led officers to find a large amount of marijuana inside a business in south Nashville.

During the traffic stop on Murfreesboro Pike and Cleveland Avenue on Tuesday night, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from some nearby shops.

During a check of the shops, they found a group of people sitting in a garage bay. Officers began speaking with 38-year-old Roger D. Merritt and he told them he had just finished smoking a marijuana joint.

The officer asked Merritt if he had any more drugs, and Merritt showed the officer several blunts, marijuana seeds, grinders, and stems inside a toolbox.

During a search of the shop, police found more than 150 grams of marijuana in various containers and bags. They also found digital scales, marijuana pipes, and $3,727 in cash.

Police said Merritt admitted the drugs were his. He was charged with felony drug possession with intent to sell and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000.
