Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Metro Police officer is recovering from his injuries after a crash in east Nashville on Wednesday night.

A witness said the patrol car had its sirens and emergency lights active when it sped through intersection at North 12th Street and Gartland Avenue around 6:30 p.m. The cruiser struck a white SUV.

"The cop car just was on his way to another accident or something, and he went through the red light and just hit that other car over there and it flipped. And yeah, I saw the whole thing, it was crazy," said witness Brian Dexter.

The officer, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not hurt.

Authorities are still investigating if the officer or the other driver is at fault for the wreck.
