DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. – A man was seriously injured after being shot by officers with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday night.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said officers were called to the area of Adcock Cemetery Road and Petty Road around 11:53 p.m. on a report of a man yelling and gunshots being fired.

When officers got on the scene, they spoke with the person who called 911 and a member of the man's family. The family member told a detective that the man said if law enforcement officers pulled into his driveway, he would shoot them.

Officers drove to the man's home on Petty Road, according to Sheriff Ray. They said he came out from behind some trees in his neighbor's yard and pulled out a gun. A deputy and a detective fired multiple shots, striking the man.

He was taken to DeKalb Community hospital, and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. His condition was unknown.

No identities have been released.

The case remained under investigation by the Sheriff's Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the District Attorney General's Office.
