Fire Erupts After 14-Year-Old Crashes Car Into Home

Posted: Updated:

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – A teenage boy who took his mother's car on a joyride ended up in the hospital after crashing the car into a home and setting it on fire.

La Vergne Police said the 14-year-old boy crashed the car into the home on Greenfield Drive sometime before 1 a.m. Monday. The car caught on fire, which then set the home on fire. Two neighbors had to pull the boy out of the burning car.

He was taken to the hospital, but was not seriously injured.

Police were unsure whether alcohol played a factor, but will test the teen to find out.

The five people who lived in the home had to find a place to stay because the home was severely damaged by the fire. No one inside the home was hurt.

The teen will be charged with joyriding, driving without a license, and being out past curfew.
