Bowling Green Poised To Become A Bicycle Haven

Posted: Updated:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Between ongoing work to develop local mountain bike trails and the expansion of a bicycle retailer into Bowling Green, the area seems poised to become a haven for cyclists of all stripes.

Chip Winger is chairman of the Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association. He and the association have been especially active in the past year, clearing a path in Weldon Peete Park for a mountain bike trail.

Since around this time last year, 2.6 miles of trail have been created for cyclists and hikers at the park, Winger said, and volunteers often go out to the park to lengthen the trail.

SKMBA is also working on developing Brier Creek Trail at Nolin Lake State Park, where four miles of a projected 8.5-mile trail are currently open, and Big Hollow Trail at Mammoth Cave National Park, which is projected to open in August.
