'Gift Cards For Guns' Held Saturday In Nashville

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Davidson County citizens can drop off guns for safe disposal this weekend with no questions asked.

Nashville will hold a Gift Cards for Guns initiative this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Saint Luke's Primitive Baptist Church.

People can drop off broken, unwanted, or unsafe guns for safe disposal. In exchange for the guns, those who donate will get a $25 gift card to Mapco, a Tennessee Titans hat, and a voucher to a Nashville Predators pre-season game.

It's a trade the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said they are more than willing to make.

"Last summer we held this initiative here at St. Luke's Church (and) 156 fire arms were turned in. Here's just a sampling of the firearms turned in last year at this very church," said Police Chief Steve Anderson.

They will also be accepting any unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Citizens are encouraged to safely dispose of medicines in this manner instead of throwing them into the trash or flushing pills down the toilet.
