MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Newschannel 5 is not in the habit of doing stories on lost dogs, but there are exceptions. In this case, we make one for a loyal public servant.

Billy is an 11-year-old German Shepherd and a retired member of the K-9 unit with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

He lives with the family of his long-time partner -- former K-9 officer Greg Hall -- out near the Readyville community in eastern Rutherford county.

Billy somehow got out of his kennel during the rain storm Wednesday and has been missing ever since.

"He's been on so many tracks going after armed robbers and burglars. But now he's just a family dog and we just want him home," said Hall.

If you see a German Shepherd roaming around lost, it could be him. Don't be scared of the police dog tough-guy reputation. Hall said Bill is very gentle and will not bite.

If you see him you are asked to contact the Murfreesboro Police Department.
