Nashville Children's Theater Needs Donations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Children's Theater had funds to provide children with scholarships and free tickets, but it has since been depleted, now the program needs donations.

A normal day at drama camp to say the least is pretty dramatic. Hunter's been coming to the Nashville Children's Theater since 2005.

"I had nothing to do spring break, so my mom just signed me up without telling me," said Hunter, a drama camp student.

Hunter said he now thanks his mother because he said he's found his calling. Many of the children at the theater get to participate thanks to scholarships. It provided 191 scholarships this past year.

All those requests were funded, as well as all the requests from teachers of families unable to pay to see a play.

That commitment to serve the community came with a price leaving the theater in a $70,000 hole.

"Last year, we had record breaking box office sales," said Kathryn Colegrove, Managing Director. However, this year they fell short, and now they need assistance.

"We don't want to have to say no when the family sends in their application to get a scholarship for their child to come to camp or to get discounts on tickets," said Colegrove.

"Every kid should have the chance to do this, and just because they don't have the financial means to get here doesn't mean they should be denied that," said Hunter.
