LEBANON, Tenn. - Graduation is a celebration of a student's hard work and long journey. A soldier's wife was among those earning her GED Thursday, but there was an emotional reunion for her as well.

It's a day many of these graduates have been waiting for.

"I'm getting my GED I want to show my kids that it's never too late to continue education," said one of the graduates, Amanda Hubbard.

It may explain why hundreds packed Fairview Church in Wilson County to show their support.

"My parents are here, my two children are here, my husband's not here; he's in Afghanistan," said Hubbard.

As a military wife, Hubbard understands why her husband can't be here. Private First Class Thomas Hubbard been deployed in Afghanistan since February.

"It's difficult to be separated for an extended period of time."

However, at the end of the ceremony, Hubbard knew she was going to have a GED, but what she didn't know was that she was getting more than a degree, but a moment she'll never forget.

"She has no idea," said PFC Hubbard. "I haven't been able to surprise her the five years we've been married."

"When you have to be apart from your spouse for that long, I don't think words can describe the feeling when you see them again," said Hubbard. "I just want to hold onto him and not let go."

More than 80 graduates received their GEDs through the Wilson County Adult Learning Center.
