ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. - After entertaining and informing the community for decades AM 790 WQSV is gearing up for its final sign-off.

Owner, general manager and host, Corkey Albright said decreasing advertising dollars is forcing him to turn the on-air switch off for good.

"I'll say something about goodbye and how much I enjoyed it, but I don't want people on here telling me what a good job I've done; because if I did such a good job, why am I leaving," said Albright.

For 22 years, the small building sitting at 208 ½ Main Street in downtown Ashland City, has been the voice of Cheatham County.

Albright has been sitting behind the microphone for nearly 50 years, purchasing and running 6 radio stations during that time.

He said he's been fighting this decision for nearly three years saying, "It's been tough for the people who really want to support us that really can't afford to support us."

This run, just one month shy of 23 years, has been one that Albright said has been a joy as he looks at awards, plaques and his honor of being voted Man of the Year by the Ashland City Times.

He said being the voice of the community was always the main goal focusing on things that folks in the county wanted to know.

"They'd call and they'd say we heard so and so died; do you have the arrangements on it? I'd say, I do they are right here. We give those in the morning time," said Albright.

During the final hours, the door at 208 ½ Main Street kept opening with folks wanting to say thank you, like George Clark.

"Wonderful radio station, serves the community well and we look forward to bigger and better things," he said.

The official sign-off is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
