MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A pair of local pilots are leaving the state to take part in a women's-only air race that will send them across the country.

Alexis Hutchinson and Alison Taylor are part of a flying group called the 99's -- a team of all woman pilots founded by Amelia Earhart.

The Air Race Classic will take them from Washington State to Arkansas with several stops in between.

Alison said the chance to compete in this air race was something she couldn't pass up.

"It was kind of an opportunity that was presented and I'm all about taking opportunities," said Taylor. "Anything I can get my hands on, I love doing it for the experience."

Even though Alexis and Alison will be heading to Washington State on Monday, the race doesn't start until next Tuesday, and it runs until June 21st.
