HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. The parking lots at Drake's Creek Park are normally full when Sara Adcock is playing softball, but Tuesday night the outfielder saw something that took her attention away from the game.

"Waiting on a fly ball and all of a sudden I heard some noise," she said Wednesday. "I turned to my left and all of a sudden I see somebody breaking into my car. He was literally leaning into the door."

The same person also hit other teammates from "The Sharks," a Hendersonville women's softball team.

"Once we got to the parking lot there was shattered glass around three other vehicles and it was pretty bad actually," Adcock said.

Adcock said when her boyfriend approached a man in a grey Honda Accord he sped away. A nearby officer tried to pull the car over he wouldn't stop, while throwing stolen purses out the window.

That chase lasted all the way to the Madison.

"As it got on I-65 and approached Old Hickory Boulevard speeds became excessive and it was elected to call off the purist at that time," said Sgt. J.D. Coarsey with the Hendersonville Police Department.

Wednesday, thanks to a tip, detectives believe they found the same abandoned Accord in a Madison mobile home park along Dickerson Road.

It could contain Adcock's purse she admits to not hiding well enough in her backseat.

"It was there. It was my fault for even having it in his sight. Period," she said.

Coarsey said as people get more active this summer, thieves do as well by taking advantage of easy targets, like valuables left in cars. Investigators hope this teaches a hard lesson that someone could always be waiting for the right opportunity to strike.

"I'm not going to keep my purse in my car anymore. It's going with me at all times," Adcock said.

Late Wednesday, detectives planned to process the Accord to recover stolen items and hopefully get closer to an arrest.
