Graceworks Ministries Keeps Seniors Cool In Summer Heat

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A middle Tennessee organization will be working to help the elderly in Williamson County keep cool on hot summer days.

Graceworks Ministries has been giving air conditioning units to the elderly suffering from medical problems free of charge.

"Everyone on the list gets a call and then they come by with their slip and we load it in their car for them," said an employee at Graceworks Ministries.

"Yesterday, we gave out between 15 to 20," said Rae Boyd the Client Resources Director. "Today we're going to give out another 15 or 20."

Alice Boyce has been on a fixed income and recently suffered a stroke. "Yesterday, I sat on the porch practically all day so I could get some air because it was so hot," she said. "I just couldn't stand it."

Boyce's doctor told her she could no longer do what she's done in the past.

"Last year I just burned up," she said. "I suffered with it." Her one bedroom apartment didn't have air conditioning, until now.

"I thank the people at Graceworks for giving us the fans and trying to help us keep cool," said Boyce. "It's a blessing."

Graceworks passed out all of its air conditioning units Wednesday, so it's in need of more supplies. If you're interested in making a contribution click here.
