Standoff Shuts Down East Nashville Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A standoff between police and a carjacking suspect kept residents out of their homes in one east Nashville neighborhood for several hours.

It all started just before 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Police said a carjacking suspect was spotted near Trinity Lane. An officer tried to pull the suspect over, but he led them on a chase to Marshall Street. The suspect crashed the car, then ran inside a home.

"Any time there's a situation like that, we're going to have to evacuate the surrounding homes that displaces people for the length of the incident," said Metro Police Captain Chris Taylor.

He held police officers at bay until just before 5 p.m. At that point, officers deployed pepper spray into the home, and the suspect surrendered. He was taken to a nearby hospital. The scene was cleared and residents were allowed back into their homes.
