Technician Killed In Accident At Nissan Plant

SMYRNA, Tenn. - A worker at the Nissan plant in Smyrna was killed in an accident early Sunday morning.

Company officials said 43-year-old Michael Hooper died in the accident which happened at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Hooper was a maintenance technician and had worked for the company for 21 years. 

According to a statement from Nissan, "Emergency response authorities are on-site and working to confirm details of the incident, which occurred in the body assembly area of the plant."

The company went on to say, "The safety and well-being of our team members is Nissan's top priority. The company is working with authorities to investigate (Sunday's) incident and is doing everything possible to support those affected in the aftermath of this devastating event."

Nissan spokesman Justin Saia said he could not provide more details until family members had been told.

On April 25, a contract worker was killed at the plant's paint facility when a large electrical panel fell as it was being moved.
