Suspect In Madison Apartment Shooting Returned To Nashville

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The man accused of shooting a woman and her three daughters at a Madison apartment complex was returned to Nashville from Memphis Monday afternoon.

39-year old Earnest Woodley, aka Costosteno Earnest Moore, surrendered to police in Memphis around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. He was booked into the Shelby County Jail.

The shootings happened Friday at the Brinkhaven Apartments, just off Gallatin Pike. Police said Woodley shot his girlfriend, and then shot her three teenage daughters, following an argument.

The victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in stable condition.

Witnesses reported Moore ran barefoot into a wooded area after the shootings. Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department spent several hours searching for Woodley, but he somehow made his way to Memphis.

"You never know why someone turns themselves in," said Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. "Maybe someone exercised some common sense and said, 'You know what, you need to turn yourself in, and deal with what comes next.'"

Domestic Violence Detectives in Nashville issued arrest warrants charging Woodley with four counts of attempted homicide and four counts of aggravated assault.

Memphis television station WREG-TV tracked down Woodley's family. They didn't want to speak on camera, but told WREG's reporter that Woodley is Schizophrenic and Bipolar.

Police said Woodley has a lengthy criminal history, including a conviction for second-degree murder nearly 23 years ago. His parole expired in 2010.

Woodley was being held on a $5 million bond.
