Drowning Victim Recovered At Percy Priest Lake

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in a drowning Saturday morning on Percy Priest Lake.

Emergency crews were called out to the Seven Points Recreation Area around 10:30 a.m. after reports that a male swimming with a group of friends went under and did not resurface. That recreation area is just off Stewarts Ferry Pike in Hermitage.

Rescue personnel with the Nashville Fire Department and the Office of Emergency Management recovered the 32-year old man about an hour later.

Investigators said the lake in that area is shallow in some parts, but there is a sharp drop off which could have been another factor in the drowning.

"There are designated swimming areas at Percy Priest Lake which would certainly be the areas to go if that's what you decided to do," said Capt. Gordon Howey with Metro Police. "This is probably not a safe area to do that."

There were no signs posted prohibiting swimming in the area.

The name of the victim has not been released.
