VANLEER, Tenn. – Folks in the Dickson County town of Vanleer held an auction and fundraiser Saturday for a fallen firefighter. Alan Faircloth died last month when his car hit a deer.

Saturday, the town of 400 people came together to help Alan's family with his remaining medical bills.

Folks in Vanleer said everyone knew Alan as a kind man who had his whole life ahead of him, and that their fundraising efforts show that small towns can pull together when friends need support.

"It just tells you small towns are still alive and kicking," said Vanleer firefighter Mike Hodges. "There's about 400 people here, and when somebody's in trouble, we band together."

You can find more information on helping with Alan's remaining medical bills on this Facebook page.
