Pat Summitt Plaza, Statue Planned For UT Campus

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Officials at the University of Tennessee unveiled plans for a new Pat Summitt Plaza Wednesday.

The plaza will be built at the corner of Lake Loudon Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Way on UT's campus.

Sketches call for a bronze statue of Coach Summitt and will celebrate the success of the Lady Vols basketball program.

The plaza will serve as a entry to the campus and greet fans attending games at Thompson-Bowling Arena.

University of Tennessee officials said it will serve as a permanent testament to the career of college basketball's greatest coach.

Pat Summitt was head coach of the Lady Vols from 1974 until last year when she went public with her battle against Alzheimer's.
