Soles4Souls Sends Donations, Shoes, Volunteers To Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – A Nashville-based non-profit group has traveled to Haiti to donate thousands of shoes, dollars and volunteer hours.

Their mission is to reach souls around the world. The group uses soles, as in shoes, to get it done.

NewsChannel 5's Janet Kim and photojournalist Dustin Gagne traveled with Soles4Souls to Haiti to see how local donations have helped the country rebuild.

Since a 7.0 earthquake devastated its country in 2010, Haiti has become a destination – not for tourism, but for mission groups and charitable organizations hoping to make a difference.

Soles4Soles volunteers get a chance to see where their donations go.

One donor recipient is a community center in Fermathe, which sits outside of Haiti's capital of Port Au Prince. The building lost its roof and the facilities are in need of repair. It's a reality not lost on those still wanting to help.

Soles4Souls is still working to raise $100,000 for the community center in Fermath. State and local leaders have started to pledge their support through Soles4Souls' Tennessee Rebuilds campaign.
