MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Murfreesboro residents are upset over a "sex shop" opening for business in the area.

For nearly 25 years it's been the home of Bill Shacklett's photography business and he said, "Over the years so many people have put so much into creating this environment where you can bring your family."

So when the newest businesses, called Body Boutique, decided to open for business in the town square, Shacklett said it just isn't a good fit.

"It could put some of the economic viability of some of us that are working to create that environment; it could challenge that," said Shacklett.

Body Boutique is selling items like: costumes, lingerie, toys, lotions and paints. Owner Sarah Baldwin said it is intended for couples.

Baldwin called her business a "novelty store that caters to intimacy." She said her goal was not to offend anyone; only to help couples in the bedroom.

"I'm not doing any of the books, videos or anything like that; that's not what I want. I wanted this to be a fun and safe environment where couples will be able to come in and explore and just have fun with each other," she said.

Only open two days for business, Baldwin said she thought it would at least take a month to cause controversy. To help keep down ease any problems, she said she took a few precautions.

"I put the curtains up. I made sure to put the calmer costumes in the window. I never planned on putting any of the lingerie in the window, because there are children that walk by. I have children, I have grandchildren, I understand family," said Baldwin.

Shopper Sonja Webb said, "From what I see from across the street at the moment, it is very tasteful, for as much as it can be for the products that are selling."

Baldwin said she hopes after learning what her business is about, her neighbors will be more welcoming because, "I am not going anywhere. This is where I want to be."

Body Boutique passed all city codes evaluations and Baldwin said she is planning to create a catalogue and shipping for customers.
