Chain Reaction Crash Ends With Hummer On Top Of Car

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A chain reaction collision ended with a Hummer on top of a car, and left several injured on Monday morning.

A witness said it started when two cars collided on Charlotte Avenue near 18th Avenue North around 10:30 a.m., and a car behind them swerved to avoid the collision. The third car went into the path of the Hummer, so the driver of the Hummer swerved to avoid it, and went on top of one of the cars involved in the initial collision.

"I was coming down Charlotte Pike, headed towards 14th, and I saw there was something black standing up in the air and there was smoke everywhere," said Theresa Brown. "So we stopped, and I came running down here, and there was a lady trapped in the white car, there was a gentleman in a Hummer, and there was nobody in the blue car once I got here."

Brown said the woman trapped in the white car had a broken arm, and bystanders broke out her back window to pull her out.

A NewsChannel 5 photojournalist saw at least four people put on stretchers and into ambulances, but police have not released how many were taken to the hospital or how seriously they were hurt.

The roadway was blocked while crews worked to clear the scene.
