Evidence Collected In Vanderbilt Sex Crime Investigation

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said evidence has been collected in the Vanderbilt University sex crime investigation.

Detectives said they're continuing their investigation into an alleged June 23 sexual assault at a Vanderbilt University dormitory.

This comes as four Vanderbilt University football players were dismissed from the team for violation of team rules Friday. The students were also suspended from the university.

Officials said the university reported the matter to the Metro Nashville Police Department and has fully cooperated with the Metro Police investigation. Since then, police said a number of interviews have been conducted.

It wasn't known which players were suspended or the details surrounding the incident.

Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Beth Fortune said, "The well-being of our students is of paramount concern to us, and we will not tolerate any actions that threaten student safety and security."

The university said it will make further comments when appropriate.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
