Woman Burned, Man Arrested In Homeless Feud

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A woman was badly burned and a man was arrested after a plan to set another man's tent on fire at a homeless camp went awry.

Officers said a woman and 54-year-old Roy Morris bought two cans of gasoline, and then went to the homeless camp in a wooded area off Trinity Lane, near Interstate 65 around 6 p.m. on July 1. They threw two Molotov cocktails into the encampment, where a man was sleeping.

The man were able to escape without injury; however, the woman fell into the fire. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with second and third degree burns.

Morris was taken into custody Sunday, and charged with aggravated arson. The woman will be charged once she recovers from her injuries.

Police said Morris and the woman live at a different homeless camp, but did not specify what the argument was about.

Morris' bond was set at $100,000.
