Arrest Made In La Vergne Fatal Shooting

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with shooting death of man who was found in the front yard of his home last week.

La Vergne Police charged Wendill "Matthew" Ford with homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence in the shooting death of 22-year-old Murad Abulola.

Abulola was found with gunshot wounds in the front yard of the home on Mable Drive around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police Chief Mike Walker expressed his gratitude on behalf of the victim's family, "It is simply horrifying when a loved one is lost to violence. I am proud of the Police Department for their hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of the perpetrator of this crime."

Police said the incident was isolated. The investigation was ongoing and more possible charges could follow.
