NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two Dollar General employees have filed a lawsuit against the nation's largest small-box discount retailer saying they were forced to work unpaid lunch periods in violation of federal law.

The employees, Rachel Buttry and Jennifer Peters, both were supervisors at a Dollar General store in Bulls Gap, outside of Kingsport.

The two allege that the practice is prevalent at other Dollar General stores around the country, including locations in Illinois, Missouri and South Carolina.

The employees were seeking class-action status to cover all Dollar General employees in similar positions.

A spokeswoman for Goodlettsville-based Dollar General did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
