One Hurt In Explosion At Clarksville Gas Station

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A pedestrian was hospitalized with severe burns after a car went off the road and struck a gas pump in Montgomery County.

Officials said John Ward was driving south on Riverside Drive in Clarksville around 8 a.m. Friday when he suddenly veered into oncoming traffic.

His car drove went off the road, where he struck a gas pump at a nearby Exxon Gas Station.

A person nearby managed to avoid the car, but could not escape the fire from the explosion.

Crews from the Clarksville Fire Department and officers from the Clarksville Police Department responded to the scene. 

The victim was transported to the Burn Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Their identity was not released.

Crash scene investigators were working to determine exactly what happened.

Officials said the victim was listed in critical condition, but was stable.
