Memorial Service Marks 10 Years Since Deaths Of Two Officers

Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn. – Families, friends and coworkers came together Tuesday morning to honor the lives of two mid-state officers killed in the line of duty ten years ago.

A memorial service was held for Mt. Juliet Police Sergeant Jerry Mundy and Wilson County Sheriff's Deputy John Musice.

"My biggest fear when this happened was that people would forget, and so I find a lot of comfort in this… knowing that people will still take time out of their day and busy schedules to be here to pay honor to these two men," said Sgt. Mundy's widow Trish Mundy.

On July 9, 2003, Mundy and Musice were attempting to end a high speed chase safely.

They put spike strips on the road, but the driver of a car, Fallon Tallent, swerved to miss the spike and hit and killed the two men instantly. Tallent was sentenced to life in prison in 2005.
