Asiana Aircraft’s Landing Gear Hit Seawall First

Posted: Updated:

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (AP) - Investigators said an Asiana aircraft's landing gear hit a seawall before the tail of the plane during a weekend crash.

The disclosure came on Tuesday during a news conference by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The hulking Boeing 777 crashed during its landing at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, killing two 16-year-old Chinese girls and leaving at least two other people paralyzed.

The aircraft hit a seawall at the end of the runway, a collision that broke off the tail and sent the fuselage bouncing and skidding across the airfield.
