SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – Two Bedford County men are in hot water over the theft of a two-dollar beer, thanks to a determined convenience store clerk.

Police said late Sunday night at the Marathon convenience store in Shelbyville, Justin Samples and Carlos Lowe tried swiping a $1.99 40-ounce beer.

However, the store clerk saw it, and instead of letting it go, he ran out of the store, and went after the two men, catching up with them behind a nearby business.

"I said, ‘give me my beer,' he said ‘No, I didn't steal it!," store clerk Devendra Patel said.

Police said the store clerk grabbed the beer back from them, and then called police.

The two were arrested early Monday morning, and both face theft charges.

Police said the two have been arrested in the past for the same crime of stealing alcohol from convenience stores.
