MT. PLEASANT, Tenn. – A girls softball coach was arrested after investigators in Overton County said he sent inappropriate texts to one of his players and tried to initiate sexual relations.

Officials with the Overton County Sheriff's Department said they began investigating 37-year-old Patrick Johnson, of Mt. Pleasant, after learning about the texts.

Johnson was one of the coaches for the Tennessee Orange Crush Girls Team in Columbia, where the girl from Overton County had played once.

Detectives said they began text conversations with Johnson. They said he made arrangements to meet with the minor for sexual relations.

After he arrived as the designated location, deputies arrested Johnson and booked him into the Overton County Justice Center.

He was charged with solicitation of a minor, solicitation by electronic means and attempted statutory rape by an authority figure.

Bond was set at $200,000. Johnson was expected to appear before a general sessions judge on Tuesday, July 16.

The age of the victim was not available.

Investigators have asked any other potential victims to contact the Overton County Sheriff's Office.
