Kentucky Woman Killed In Horse Accident Had Broken Neck

Posted: Updated:

VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) - Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens said an autopsy revealed that a central Kentucky woman who was found dead in an outdoor hurdle-jumping arena died of a broken neck.

Owens told the Lexington Herald-Leader that 44-year-old Christine Brown was apparently jumping hurdles when the horse hit one and threw her. Owens said Brown was an experienced rider. He said the hurdle was tipped over and the wood splintered where the horse hit it.

Brown was found dead Wednesday afternoon at the arena near Versailles by her husband, veterinarian Stuart Brown, who is a member of Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington.

Owens said Stuart Brown knew when he returned home and saw a horse outside the arena that something was wrong.
