Suspicious Fires Under Investigation In Rutherford County

Posted: Updated:

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – Authorities are investigating a string of suspicious fires overnight in Rutherford County.

Firefighters were first called to a blaze at a mobile home off of Factory Road in Murfreesboro just after midnight.

Around 1:30 a.m., firefighters were finishing up when they spotted another fire at a home some 100 yards away. They were concerned someone was inside since there was a pickup truck in the driveway, but soon found the home was vacant.

While firefighters were working to put out that fire, they discovered someone had tried to set a detached garage on fire.

Both the mobile home and vacant home were destroyed in the blazes.

About 45 to 50 firefighters responded to the fires, including from Lascassas and Kitrell to help relieve firefighters. One firefighter suffered dehydration, but no other injuries were reported.

The Sheriff's Department and arson investigators were on scene trying to determine the cause of the fires.
