NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three men were hurt when their car crashed after shots were fired between two cars in north Nashville on Tuesday.

Metro Police said shots were fired between two cars on Buena Vista Pike, causing a Pontiac Bonneville to crash into a telephone police.

Charles Keith Williams was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a head wound. Police initially thought he'd been shot, but doctors later determined the injury was suffered during the crash. He was last listed in non-life threatening condition.

Officials said the driver, 18-year-old Darryn Carter, and two other passengers, Emmanuel Webb and Richard Jackson, both 19, were also transported to Vanderbilt with injuries.

The other car involved, which police said was a Chrysler 300, drove away from the scene. Canine officers recovered a handgun that was hidden by passengers of the Pontiac in a nearby wooded area.

Webb and Carter were convicted of robbing a woman of her purse in 2011.

No charges have been filed.
