Woman Stabbed In Opry Mills Mall Parking Lot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 40-year-old woman was stabbed in the parking lot of Opry Mills Mall on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the woman was sitting in a car when witnesses said they saw the suspect jump into the car. The victim then got out of the vehicle and began screaming for help.

"I walked up to her; me and him both walked up to her and she was bleeding every where, blood every where, holding her side. so I am thinking she got cut, stabbed or shot or something," said witness Justin Martin, who called 911.

The suspect then got into another vehicle and drove away.

Officials said the victim was a 40-year-old woman from Williamson County. She suffered a puncture wound and some cuts and scrapes from defending herself.

Initial reports said the woman received injuries to her arm and waist. She was treated for non-critical injuries.

Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Don Aaron said the stabbing was an isolated incident, and other shoppers were not in danger.

Police said they weren't sure if the attack was an attempted carjacking or robbery. The woman told police she didn't know the person who attacked her.

Investigators taped off at least one vehicle in the parking lot to search for clues about the suspect's identity.

Opry Mills Mall released a statement shortly after the stabbing.

"We are fully cooperating with the Nashville Police Department as they investigate this isolated incident, which has resulted in the stabbing of one individual. We are saddened by this and remain committed to the safety of our shoppers," said Jad Murphy, general manager at the mall.

Police said a description of the vehicle the suspect used to flee the scene would not be immediately released to help investigators work on leads.
