73-Year-Old Man Shot In Attempted Robbery

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 73-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot during an attempted robbery at his south Nashville home.

Police said Billy Zeigler was standing inside his garage with the door open as he prepared to take out the trash around 10:40 p.m. at his home on Cedar Hill Road. He noticed a man standing in his driveway, who then told the victim to "give it up." Instead he turned around and ran back into his garage to hide behind some furniture and other stacked objects.

The shooter did not follow Zeigler, so he came out of his hiding place. That's when the gunman fired three times, striking the elderly man twice.

Police say Ziegler then ran back inside the garage and yelled for his son, who was in a downstairs bedroom, and the shooter took off on foot. Police said the his wife was also home at the time of the shooting, but was not hurt.

Police do not yet have a description of the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (615)74-CRIME.
