Two Molotov Cocktails Thrown At Discount Tobacco Store

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A suspected arsonist tried to set a Nashville business on fire by throwing two Molotov cocktails at it overnight.

Police said someone threw the homemade devices at the Discount Tobacco Center on Jenkins Street just after 1 a.m. Friday. One of them hit the building, but did not ignite, while the other hit a car in the parking lot and burned out on the ground.

There were people inside the store when it happened, but no one was hurt. The building did not suffer any damage either.

The Nashville Fire Department and Metro Nashville Police responded, and were investigating to find the person responsible.

"That's very serious. I mean, it's a dangerous device there's people that were inside the store. That's why we have the fire department here; (we're) taking this very seriously," said Metro Police Captain Kenneth Walburn.

The owners of the business told police they had an altercation with an intoxicated person about an hour before this happened, but they don't know if this is the same person who did this.
