Construction Crews Install Free Roof On Mt. Juliet Home

Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn. – A Wilson County woman who has lost her husband, only son and only grandchild was surprised with a new roof.

Mildred Hardy had become accustomed to keeping pans on the floor of her home to catch the water that leaked from her roof.

Ms. Hardy's home insurance was not renewed because of the age and condition of her old roof. After losing her husband, her only son and only grandson, Ms. Hardy had no one to turn to.

"A lot of times we see this in older roofs where there's just deterioration," said Bob Redd from Bluebird Construction.

He said Ms. Hardy's only son was helping her financially when he was killed.

"Two weeks before that his only son, and her only grandson, was killed in a car wreck, so she didn't have a soul on this earth," said Redd.

Help arrived Friday morning – lots of help. An entire crew from Bluebird Construction in Mt. Juliet showed up bright and early on her front porch to install a new roof.

Ms. Hardy expected another insurance adjuster to show up to take a look. She had no idea the surprise she was about to receive.

Redd smiled from ear to ear when he told NewsChannel5 Ms. Hardy had no clue the crews were really on hand to repair the roof free of charge.

He gave Ms. Hardy flowers and balloons when he made the big announcement.

"I've got a big surprise for you," said Redd. "Congratulations - we're going to put your roof on for your today. You're not going to have any more leaks."

With a new roof, Redd said Ms. Hardy would be able to get her insurance back.

"I am so excited. I am so excited," said Redd. "The look on her face was worth a million dollars."

"God is good. I love all you guys, and I appreciate it," Hardy said, fighting back the tears. "I just appreciate everything. I'm lost for words."

The new roof over her head was put on free of charge by the good folks with Bluebird Construction.
