NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Investigators credited a concerned citizen for helping put a convicted felon wanted by police back behind bars.

Sheila DeFazio said she spotted 35-year old William Buttrey driving a pickup truck near 49th Avenue North near Idaho Avenue. She said what struck her as odd was the truck was having difficulty pulling a trailer carrying an ATV, and things were falling off of it.

DeFazio said warnings have gone up on her Sylvan Park neighborhood website of increased property theft, so when she saw Buttrey she did not want him to get away.

Officials said DeFazio followed Buttrey through the neighborhood until officers arrived at 46th Avenue North and Charlotte Avenue, where the stolen truck had stalled.

"To have criminals roaming your neighborhood all day, it makes you feel unsecure and unsafe," said DeFazio. "I think people need to just act a little bit and be a little forthright and respond to situations that don't look right."

Buttrey was arrested and charged with three counts of felony theft and possession of a burglary tool.

Prior to the arrest, police said Buttrey was out on bond for a May 9 theft of a trailer full of musical equipment.

He also had outstanding warrants for him for an unrelated incident earlier this week.
