Camaro Drives Under Semi In Crash; 4 Pinned

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Four people were trapped after a vehicle and semi-truck collided on Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville. The impact wedged the vehicle under the semi.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were called to westbound I-40 near the Demonbreun Street exit around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived on scene they found a Chevrolet Camaro pinned underneath the semi. Crews from the Nashville Fire Department were able to extricate four people from the car.

The victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Officials said the victims were fortunate their injuries were not more severe. Their identities were not released.

"Anytime you see a wreck like that you think the worst. In this case I think they were very fortunate," said Sergeant Josh Lunn with Metro Police.

Westbound lanes were shut down from 45 minutes to an hour while emergency responders worked to help the victims and clear the debris.

A tow truck was brought in to lift the semi up enough to free the Camaro.

The exact cause of the crash was not available.
