FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Police have been searching for a man who was seen on surveillance video walking in the Belk Department Store at Cool Springs Galleria, and stealing high-end clothing.

The man was seen going into the men's department just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"The suspect caught security's eye when he walked into the store and immediately started selecting high-end designer shirts," said Lt. Charlie Warner, spokesperson with the Franklin Police Department.

Loss prevention officers followed the man with surveillance cameras and captured him taking several expensive shirts to a part of the store hidden from view.

They believe that was where the man prepared to take the merchandise without paying for it.

"The suspect removed the theft sensors. He put the shirts into a bag and left the store," said Lt. Warner.

The man made his way toward the exit and loss prevention officers moved in to stop him, but the suspect made it outside into the parking lot.

"When the suspect reached his car, that's when things turned dangerous for security. They tried to get the merchandise back, and tried to detain him. He was getting into the car, forcibly fighting them off," Lt. Warner said.

The suspect did not stop for officers and sped out of the parking lot.

"Loss prevention tried to stop him and had to actually move out of the way of the moving vehicle to avoid being struck," Lt. Warner said.

The man has not been seen since. He got away with nearly $900 worth of stolen merchandise.

The suspect was described as a dark-complected male wearing a white Muhammad Ali iron-on T-shirt and green Lacoste hat. He was driving a Blue Nissan Altima with temporary tags.

Anyone who saw the suspect or anything out of the ordinary in the Cool Springs Area around 5 p.m. Tuesday has been asked to call Williamson County Crime Stoppers at 615-794-4000.
