HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hopkinsville has been named the fastest growing city in the state of Kentucky.

Hopkinsville city leaders said the biggest reason for the three percent population rise is the increased number of jobs in the area.
They said the population growth was also attributed to the area's efforts to recruit military families from nearby Fort Campbell, which is situated halfway between Hopkinsville and Clarksville, Tennessee.

Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp credited the city's population increase with boom in nearby Nashville, just 70 miles south.

"I think we're seeing tremendous growth in Hopkinsville. I think that's because we're experiencing some tremendous growth in the Nashville and Clarksville areas," he said.

Hopkinsville topped the list of fastest growing Kentucky cities, but another Southern Kentucky town, Bowling Green, also made the list. Bowling Green was ranked third with nearly two percent increase in population.
