Mother Charged After Leaving 3 Children Home Alone

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A south Nashville woman was arrested after police said she left her three young children home alone while she went to a doctor's appointment in Murfreesboro.

Officers were called to a home on Wauford Drive around 6:15 p.m. on a report of children screaming. They found three young girls, ages 2, 5, and 6, crying outside the home with no shoes on, and the youngest was only wearing an oversized t-shirt.

Police remained on scene after calling the Department of Children's Services, and said the children's mother, 35-year-old Shenetra Phomphanh, arrived home around 7:50 p.m.

She told police that she had left the home around 4:30 p.m. to go to a doctor's appointment in Murfreesboro, and did not think she was going to be gone for such a long time.

Phomphanh was taken into custody and charged with two counts of child neglect.
