NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Titans fans lined up early at St. Thomas Sports Park to get the best view of the team during the first open practice of training camp.

"Christmas in July, when training camp starts," said fan Tammy Speakman. "We just like the football game, itself, and we are huge Titans fans. Obviously."

The gates opened for fans just before 6 p.m. Friday and the crowd quickly grew and filled the sidelines.

David Schute and Juanita Smith stood in the crowd, with the team roster ready.

"Letting her know who's offense, defense, quarterback," Schute said. "I enjoy it, being around the players. I'm a sports fanatic. I'm addicted to sports."

There's just something about that first open practice of the season that gets fans excited.

"This is the great kick-off for the season, the energy, the synergy, the autographs," Smith said.

That player-fan interaction is the biggest draw that brings people out each year for training camp.

"Even the big time guys, they're all nice. They'll sign and take pictures. It's a great way, it makes the fans happy," Chris Beverly said.

After each practice there are several players available to sign items and take photographs with fans.

The Tennessee Titans have a total of 12 open practices before the pre-season begins.
