Man Caught Taking Pictures Of 10-Year-Old Boy In Mall Bathroom

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man was caught taking pictures of young children while they were using the bathroom at a local mall.

Gerrit Greiert, age 21, was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

A 10-year-old boy's father told police that his son went to use the restroom by the food court at Opry Mills Mall. His son ran out of toilet paper and called his dad to help him out.

After helping out his son, the man saw a hand with a cell phone in it go over the stall and start taking pictures.

The father then confronted the man in the bathroom, took his cell phone, and called police.

"Whatever I can do to really stop somebody from getting hurt, then I'm more than happy to do it," said the father, who didn't want to be identified to protect the identity of his son.

Police reviewed the phone, and found explicit photos of other children in the bathroom. One of the children is believed to be from Mississippi.

"Opry Mills will not tolerate this type of criminal behavior and applauds the prompt response of our security team and Metro Nashville Police Department as they continue to investigate this situation.  The safety of our shoppers and employees is our top priority and we encourage anyone to contact Metro Nashville Police Department at (615) 862-7306 for more information," said Opry Mills General Manager Jad Murphy in a statement on Monday.

Greiert's bond was set at $100,000.

Police said Greiert is from Hamburg, Germany, and was visiting the United States with his parents. They were staying in a Nashville motel and were scheduled to leave the country Friday. His court date has been set for Thursday.
