NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 13-year-old boy was stabbed while trying to defend his grandmother during a fight late Monday night.

Police were called to South 8th Street inside the James Cayce Homes just after midnight and found about 10 people standing around outside. Some screamed and pointed at 60-year-old Harold Ransom, saying he had stabbed a 13-year-old boy.

Officers drove to the teen's home to speak with him. He told officers that Ransom shoved his grandmother during a party. When the boy told him to stop, they began to fight. During that fight, he said Ransom pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest and cut him on the neck.

The 13-year-old was taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt with minor injuries.

Ransom was taken into custody on aggravated assault charges. His bond was set at $12,000.

Police said Ransom has 61 arrests in Nashville, including aggravated assault, drug and alcohol-related offenses, resisting arrest, and criminal trespassing.
