NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Sullivan County woman was charged with TennCare fraud and theft of services after she received healthcare insurance benefits through TennCare when she was not eligible for the program.

35-year-old Michelle Davis of Bristol was arrested Monday. Authorities said Davis received TennCare benefits after she fraudulently claimed her minor children as members of her household in order to be eligible for TennCare.

"People who misrepresent something about their current situation in order to qualify for TennCare are going to be caught and prosecuted," Inspector General Deborah Faulkner said. "TennCare fraud is a felony, a conviction could mean jail time and repaying the state for any medical services received."

Davis could be sentenced to up to two years in prison per charge.
