Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – All lanes on Interstate 40 westbound have reopened after the bridge over Charlotte Avenue was shutdown Tuesday afternoon due to an emergency bridge deck repair.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said a section of the bridge deck had blown out and needed repair immediately just before 2 p.m.

Two lanes of Charlotte Avenue in the affected area were reopened after being closed for about an hour.

TDOT's Traffic Management Center and HELP trucks were on site assisting with traffic.

According to TDOT, the I-40/Charlotte Avenue bridge has been on the "Structurally Deficient" list. The bridge was last inspected in January 2012. It was built in 1967 and had a sufficiency score of 76.6.
