South Nashville Little League Team Headed To Southeastern Finals

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Middle Tennessee baseball team is just one win away from going to the Little League World Series after defeating Florida 5-1 Wednesday.

The team is now headed to the Southeastern Final, which will be played Friday night in Warner Robbins, Georgia.

The televised game brought lots of proud parents and friends to Cross Corners Bar and Grill in Brentwood for a viewing party.

Some parents admit, there's a little anxiety involved.

"I've seen that all week being with them at the first three games. The parents are much more nervous than the players are. (The kids) are just out there doing their thing, but as a parent there's a knot in your stomach, no doubt about it." said Marty Smith.

South Nashville will play Virginia Friday, after the beat South Carolina 12-6 Wednesday night. The winner of that game will move on to Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Last year it was a team from Goodlettsville that landed in the national spotlight at the Little League World Series and clinched the win in the Championship game. Now, many say, it's South Nashville's turn.

This group of 11 and 12-year-olds defeated Goodlettsville twice, and then went on to beat Spring Hill to win the state championship.

South Nashville's strength is supposed to be pitching, which makes sense considering their coach is a former Major League pitcher Joe Boever.

Many of the people who watched Wednesday's game on television say they are headed to Georgia for Friday's big game.
