'Pink' Suspect Arrested After Driving At Police Officer

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Tenn. – A teenage girl suspected for shoplifting and assault threatened a police officer with her car when he tried to question her.

The unidentified 16-year-old was wanted for questioning in a robbery and assault for an incident that happened at the Rivergate Target on Gallatin Pike on Sunday, July 28.

Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the girl was seen on surveillance video walking into the store with two other individuals.

She was wearing a pink bow in her hair and pink lipstick. She also carried a large pink purse.

Security personnel detained the girl after they said they witnessed her shoplifting. They took her to an office area where she removed the stolen items from the purse.

They said the girl then pulled a pink stun gun from her purse and lunged at them before running out of the store with the other two girls.

Police said the use of the stun gun elevated the charges from theft to aggravated assault.

Surveillance images of the girls were released by investigators to help them discover the suspect's identity.

Officials said the suspect's mother recognized her from the photos and called police.

Monday, Officer Richard Gilbert with the Madison Precinct saw a car the teen was expected to be driving on Neelys Bend Road. As she drove up a long driveway, he and another officer made attempts to stop the car and question the teen.

When Officer Gilbert got out of his patrol car and stood in front of her vehicle, he said she "drove at him." He had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

Gilbert said the teen eventually stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody. She was taken to juvenile detention.

Officers found a pink stun gun matching the description of the one used in the Target incident.

State officials filed a request to transfer the girl to adult court.
